The days are short, light is minimal. Gray tends to filter the hours like a veil creating a tightened, muted staccato feel to required duties and activities, almost pushing us, rushing us through the moments to get things done before evening falls.  The end of the year is upon us and the crazed-glaze in people’s eyes is apparent; too many things to do, too little cash to fulfill the expectations. And yet we had the largest ‘Black Friday’ on record, 7 billion in sales; go figure.

I want to hunker down, get cozy and snuggle by the fire and yet I know the endless list of ‘to-dos’ is long and detailed. I  take time every morning for reflection and visualization; this morning I focused on how to motivate, get energized to move through this next month, instead of lounging like a lizard. Like I said, the fire beckons. What motivates me is good ol’ rock and roll; the music I grew up with-its happy, up-beat, danceable, singable, and energizing cadence: ‘Steve Miller, Eric Clapton, Bowie, Tull, Bad Company, U2, Bonnie Raitt, CSNY, Credence, Eagles ad infinitum. So ‘satellite’ and Pandora are my keys to enlightenment today…

… And the realization we have unconscious threads attached to our desired outcomes, our goals, that stay in the back recesses of our subconscious, which surface habitually until… we change them. Whether it is in regards to a relationship and a great partnership, to a career path which is stimulating and rewarding, we have goals which seem to be unreachable, always elusive yet visible, like the gray mist shrouding our winter days. I have known for some time of a ‘thread’ attached to my ultimate goals – ‘success and family ‘don’t’ mix.’ It’s an ‘either-or’ commitment, not an ‘and‘. Where this ‘thread’ of belief originated is probably a combination package from multiple layers of my life, the key is to identify it to ultimately rewrite the script. Change the picture so those goals of vitality, health, a great relationship, a fabulous career are possible. Every time a situation arises where the possibilities are in our favor yet somehow the stars don’t line up…guess what, it’s us, not the situation. Somewhere there is a subconscious thread defeating the goal. It is important to isolate it so it can be either removed, rewritten, let go, integrated and remade into new silk.

I burned mine this morning in the fire. The cozy fire which beckoned helped me rewrite my new code of success, with an AND instead of an ‘or’.  I invite you to do the same. Play some great inspiring music, assess where you go astray and reweave a new thread of belief into your life’s tapestry.
