Druthers. It’s a funny word. My late husband used to ask me with a twinkle in his eye, “What the hell is a Druther? That doesn’t even sound like a word.” Well it is. The actual definition is “our personal preference about anything.” So just imagine….
If our personal suitcases were already chock-filled with our most well-defined, specific personal druthers, what would we have in them? What we would fill our bags to the brims with, even to the corners of the suitcase? What are our most vital preferences? Our own unique stamp on the universe?
Actually this can be a tough question. Far too often we don’t know what our real preferences are, instead opting for other’s opinions and choices over our own. Sometimes they’re actually difficult to define, never having taken the time to dig within ourselves to discover what really makes us tick, happy and cozy and snuggled in under a comforter. We capitulate far too often being pleasers over varying opinions, food, sex, things to do, what we watch, how we do things, where to take vacations, politics, etc etc etc.
This is important. We feel giving into other’s requests, choices and sometimes even demands are the higher principles, our best spiritual path. When in truth, the opposite is true. Yes there are always times to negotiate, compromise and be kindly to someone’s requests, however abandoning our own for the sake of what? Peace, friendship, someone’s opinion of us, in the long run hinders, stagnates growth and eventually erodes the connection, the relationship. Resentment builds, damages and destroys the final emotional vestige between the parties. And/or things just slither away and decay because in truth we gave up our feminine side or our masculinity, essentially our power, to be who we think others want us to be. We each are a blend of both forces, the masculine and feminine principles, and are drawn to, intrigued by, captivated and attracted to those who are balanced within these forces, strong in who they are, those that know their druthers.
When we stick to our feeling preferences – “what feels best,” are clear with who we are, our energetic core amplifies and people are drawn to our persona. They want to share in that delightful energetic confidence we display and entertain. Best bonus is we literally become the people we’d fall in love with. For those single, this is a direct road to having a partner if this is your druther.
So what’s in your Druthers suitcase?
Mine would and does look like this:
Family and Friends: regular quality time with all members. Deep meaningful, pithy, challenging, caring, witty, insightful, harmonious, communicative, engaging, creative, active, adventurous, and happy. And Loving. That’s a given. These are in very colorful Family and Friend bags ready to pull out on a moment’s notice. Also the old fashioned day-timer is filled with upcoming opportunities and adventures with these loved ones.
Living in the positives versus the negatives- “working towards solutions” rather than mashing over “…and the problems are.” These are woven into the suitcases threads.
Focus on global optimism and good deeds: these are the pocket liners.
Fantastic Health in body mind and spirit: these are imbued into the initial construction of fiber and steel, rubber and leather.
A continuous refilling wallet brimming in coin and dollars to share with those along the road; tucked in leather belt pouch.
Travel: as much as possible for knowledge, experience, historical detail and rich happy memories. Maps galore, the ready-to-go travel gear packed, the next tickets purchased. These are all in the outside zippered pouches.
Books, stories, reference material, gadgets, tools, smart practical gear for enhancing life’s journey to amplify and simply. Basically things of value add value. These are individually tucked away in labeled zippered bags for quick convenience. Fav stories qued up ready for a good listen around a campfire on my audible app.
Cozy soft inviting blanket: rolled up in bottom zippered section. Ready for any type of warming, cuddling, romanticizing.
Fresh organic foods available daily, packed in the cooler sections. Quick-fuel super-pea protein bars for climbing ancient sites and trails, tucked in every available oriface for easy accessibility.
Time in nature daily; daypack advantageously rolled up in side pocket.
Quality gear: clothing essentials from black tie to rugged hiking rolled tightly for optimum spacing.
Deck of cards, superball, colored pens/pencils and paper, karaoke app; back pocket near handle.
Scented essential oil candles, matches, essential oils, homeopathic first aid kit. Top small inside pocket.
Camera, binoculars, knife, rope, matches, sunscreen, body oil. Extra sunglasses. Separate pack attached to handle.
5000 song playlist.
My furry kids: Traveling Tao the Zen cat and Charlie the Wonder dog: they have their own packs with goodies.
As Ford Perfect* always says, you have to have a towel. Always. A travel towel for everything. Have three sizes all in bold orange.
Separate rollered bag for ski gear for year-round global skiing.
Travel Pass to anywhere anywhen.
E-Ticket full-meal-deal lifetime fun ride.
Leathers. Never know when a Harley needs you.
Honeyed sex as often as the calendar and schedules permit between ships, planes and trains and of course fast cars.
Willingness to make it happen. Daring Confidence in spades to go where you’ve never been.
A ready smile to meet and greet the day and the world.
