“For Everything There is a Season”

Another season wrapped up. Already.  Time moves so quickly, I feel it in my bones how essential it is to value each moment, each day, every week. Put this into perspective: time. Mt St Helens blew her gorgeous top 38 years ago. Already. I remember the day it happened; May 18th. I was living in Salem and could see the blowing ash plumes cascading across the sky. What a monumental North American event.

This is the Lewis river today. My St Helen’s boulders, sand and silt loaded the local rivers like a tsunami, catastrophic destruction in the wake. Today, 38 year’s later this area of the river is normally under the waters of Swift Reservoir,  yet due the lateness of the season, the Corp has drained-the-swamp as the old saying goes, gearing for winter’s onslaught. You can see Helen’s sand still covering the river bed, creating a delta extending the beach to the west. In fact, this area where Charlie the wonder dog and I are walking added enough sand, silt and ash in 1980 to raise the lake bottom by 40 feet making it shallower and more hazardous for boats. There’s an area I call the graveyard as it’s filled with fishing line, hooks and paraphernalia having gotten caught in the old tree stumps that are right below the surface. When the water is low, the area in front of my off-grid cabin looks like beach frontage.

Because of low water levels, people seeking recreation have been scarce. Not that there are ever a lot, it’s fairly unpopulated. This year more so making my off-grid living extra quiet and peaceful. It’s been phenomenal for the wild life too. The eagles, hawks, cranes, ducks, geese, otters and myriads of other species are more prolific. There has been a goose crying distressfully several nights for her mate who hadn’t returned to their rendezvous point. It was quite sad. She has subsequently flown to warmer meadows.

Due to my connectedness with nature I can empathize and feel the emotions of the various species. Trust me other than the reptiles and amphibians they feel, they love, they grieve. Every piece of creation has consciousness!  I believe with every cell in my body if and when humankind actually works, connects and communicates with the various levels of nature we can turn this planet around environmentally. Earth is an abundant planet.  If there’s scarcity it’s because we’ve created it, made it so with our beliefs, when in fact, there’s enough for everyone. There’s no need for greed.

I hang out in nature, fearless. I’m alone 90% other than my fab furry friends. Moving back into society is great and wonderful however my heart is already embracing when I can return again next spring.

Mt St Helen’s is right behind me beyond the ridge. I can see her strong ridges, crevasses, glaciers and lahar’s from the hill I climb in the photo above and from the waters of the Lewis.

My invite: hang with the trees and rocks and creeks and rivers. The wildlife. Listen. Ask for connection. It’s essential we all learn to communicate with nature, not just a few of us out-there people. Remember everything has consciousness. Even if it’s a local park, make it a priority. We can change the planet when we do.

Cosmic sunshine to you☀️

PS: My vet told me Charlie is living on love and in my view duck tape and magic. He’s 12, blind, has had auto immune since he was 1. And he’s still going. He’s a wonder! ❤️
